So thanks to my semi-serious addiction to Hulu.com – I’ve just discovered the show If I Can Dream. Seems to be a pretty cool show that’s a play on the tried and true reality concept. One question I’ve had when I am looking at the preview episodes, does this show pretty much prove the concept that as long as you get someone enough air time now a days, they will become famous? With Simon’s pull on getting these people around the world coverage, does it matter whether they are ultimately good at acting/singing/modeling or not? Or are they just going to get famous as long as they get enough exposure?

The danger of this concept is obviously the fact that the talent have absolutely no bargaining power – the producers can simply replace them with another person. Which is ultimately the holy grail fort Hollywood execs – they have control over what is hot and what is not… if you don’t like your contract, we can simply find someone off the street to replace you.
